Some Amazon reviews of Balance..

This is a superbly written tale. Lawrence, a young offender who prides himself on his Parkour skills, needs all his sense of balance to survive in a young offender’s institution. If that doesn’t sound like your usual choice of reading matter, it isn’t mine either, but I was very quickly hooked. The story is tersely told in the present tense and in Lawrence’s own voice. Lawrence is a complex character with a drug-fuelled past who finds himself in a tangled situation of unclear aims and divided loyalties. He’s not always likeable, but we end up rooting for him anyway. We don’t find out what chain of events has put him in a prison until the very end of the story, but his attempts to steer clear of the institution’s hard cases, and find some way of dealing with his dysfunctional family and his own demons, makes of a fast-paced and intriguing read. The portrayal of prison life pulls few punches, but this is no Kafkaesque descent into darkness; the ending gives the possibility of hope and a new beginning. Highly recommended.

Lawrence encounters many of the issues YA face today, I was engrossed in the complications of his life; following his story with its highs and many lows. It’s a captivating read and reminded me of how that period in ones life can make or break a person.
I found out this book from a parkour video on youtube.

Fantastic read. It was very fast paced, and wrote from the mind of the main character Lawrence. Defiantly a lock stock and two smoking barrels vibe. I would highly recommend. A must read for all teenagers looking for something new, exciting and quite edgy.
